SUPPORT AND ACCLAMATION
BubbleNut Wash was recognised for its contribution towards the environment and employment generation among cultural minorities. The DBS Foundation’s social enterprise grant was used to help us expand our team and set up an extraction unit to improve product offerings and production capacity. The grant was awarded to us in 2018 for converting a neglected agricultural product called soap nuts into a value-added product like detergents that do not pollute water bodies like other products using petrochemicals.
Sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, this grant enabled the enterprise to set up its own R&D laboratory for trials on bio-surfactants. The program was administered through Centre for Cellular And Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), which provided the enterprise with access to R&D facilities and expertise.
This is an initiative of the Government of Karnataka, under the newly launched Start-up Policy of the government, to scout for new technologies or innovations that can offer solutions to some of the longstanding issues about the state of Karnataka. The 2022 grant won by us aimed at creating water saving detergents and its pilot was conducted in Bangalore. We were picked as the winner of the grant among 400 other competitors. Through this initiative, the enterprise saved over 6 million litres of water
The Foundation works through its Fund for Young Entrepreneurs to support young people whose innovative projects and ideas have the potential to pave the way for self-sufficiency among smallholder farmers, and move agriculture toward more sustainable practices. Through this grant the enterprise doubled the income of 107 indigenous families through harvesting of forest produce.
by UNITED NATIONS has been our supporter by acknowledging our collaboration with marginalised women from indigenous forest communities in the ecologically sensitive areas in the Himalayas to procure soapnuts. With their support, we were able to replace 70,000 litres of non-biodegradable petro-chemical detergents with biodegradable ones and number-marked 3,000+ trees, making them less prone to being chopped down and sequester 60,000 kgs of GHG emissions per year.
